Swoop Sleuth

Even though it is still blistering hot in NYC, I have begun sleuthing around for picks for updating my fall wardrobe. See below for some ethical and sustainable finds in unlikely places that will add to your excitement for the upcoming drop in temperatures all while magically making you a better person. Because I know you are already excited about every other amazing thing that is on the autumnal horizon-- apples! pumpkins! scarves! wearing layers without people thinking you are crazy! not sweating all the time! trying out natural deodrant again for the 85th time!

  • ONE: Like a gift from the gods, a sample of this Sunday Riley clarifying face oil arrived in a recent re-order of beauty essentials to help my poor, poor chin (Did you see the Swoop's makeup post?) I am a big fan of all of Sunday Riley's products and this is no exception. I have noticed a difference in just a week of using it. If you have skin that doesn't like the change of seasons, consider adding it to your regime. Sunday Riley makes products where science meets botanicals, churning out miracle savers that use Green Technology, giving your face the best of advanced active ingredients with purified botanicals ie powerful ingredients for a better you. While the prices can be a bit steep, the results (based on the sample size of one: me!) have been outstanding.
  • TWO: I have been lusting after these shoes for YEARS after spotting them on Tuckernuck and Anthropologie. This year, I plan to make them mine. Made from vintage Kilim rugs, all of the Artemis Design Co. shoes are manufactured in a workshop in Turkey by local artisans. These vibrant rugs have long been a favorite of mine and I have been eager to incorporate them into my life in addition to simply adorning my floors-- but the fabric itself can be a bit tough for close skin contact (i.e. those adorable Kilim pillows I ordered from Turkey on Etsy were better for scratching than relaxing) These shoes are the perfect solution.  Artemis even provides this awesome guide for interpreting the design on your shoes.
  • THREEThe skeptic in me is not so sure of this next item, but the optimist in me is very excited about it. For Fall 2017, Gap is launching a line of Gap for Good denim which aims to reduce the environmental impact of their denim-- Did you know denim is one of the most costly materials to use in fashion? It takes a substantial amount of water and produces a ton of waste. These stylish jeans are the product of Gap's attempts to use sustainable cotton in their denim and reduce the amount of water and pollution required for production.
  • FOURThis dress practically screams autumn. Or rather, it represents the thoughtful nudging of a weavers in India politely suggesting to you this autumnal perfection of a dress made of handwoven custom dyed-yarn. Plus, it includes an optional neck tie that either looks smashing with the dress or as a wonderful accessory for the rest of your wardrobe.
  • FIVE: I'm not sure if you have noticed, but I love straw bags. This bright red one found on Tuckernuck (I was clearly digging their new arrivals section recently) would be perfect for Fall (as well as all other seasons).  From the brand Dragon Diffusion, this bag was intricately handmade in India. I saw a woman on the street carrying one of these recently and stopped to ask her about it-- she remarked how sturdy and durable it was! What high praise for a woven bag!
  • SIX: I take a bath every single night before bed, which can be a bit of a bummer in the summer months with a tiny window AC unit. I am well aware that there are divisive thoughts on the awesomeness of taking a bath-- if you, like me, enjoy them for all their goodness and can drown the haters out, check out these awesome Bath Salts and Bath Soak from cult favorite brand Herbivore. This combo leaves my skin so soft and my body totally relaxed for a great night of sleep and are full great natural ingredients without any of the toxic nonsense.
