Swoop Dreams

I might have mentioned a couple of times before that I enjoy the occasional online shopping. Except it is not so occasional and it is not so much enjoy as obsessively check every. single. day. Don’t worry- I also do my job. It’s just done best without an email announcing new arrivals.

In the pursuit of becoming a better consumer, I am working to train my eye during these relatively frequent internet spirals to spot the items that are both drool worthy and change igniting. In the bi-weekly post Swoop Dreams (get it?! A clever SPORTZ pun?!), I’ll keep you updated on all the new and exciting things I find. Over time, we will deep dive through all of the brands represented here in brand reviews.

  • ONEEverlane is one of those companies that everyone seems to love and yet I’m just intimidated by its cool Brooklyn-ness/ have worried that it “isn’t me” / always wrote it off. But now, I’m trying to be a newish person (i.e. same person making different purchasing decisions). And this dress? It is so old AND new me. I had a similar perfect dress last summer-- except I tore the strap during a work meeting and a random stranger gave me the pin from her hijab to fix it. All that being said… It’s time for a new summer black dress.
  • TWO: Doesn’t everyone need an extra bit of whimsy sometimes? A tasseled Llama clutch made by a Rwandan artisan with Kate Spade’s stamp of approval seems to be just what I have been waiting for... plus it is on sale!
  • THREE:  Beginning this ethical fashion journey has quickly spiraled into greater curiosity about the products I am putting ON my body. I came across this brand during my day job and am intrigued. It will help me age more slowly AND improve lives of farmers in Africa. Face oils are also my jam in summer months with New York seems set on making my face melt off. Winning all around.
  • FOUR: I love two piece outfits (The versatility!)  I love monochrome (The slimming!) I love off the shoulder (Is it appropriate to say that I like my clavicle best of all my bones?!)  I love Cuyana (More on that on Monday) I gasped when I opened the email with this aptly named “summer set.” For every moment I'm not the office this summer, I will be wearing this and maybe only this.
  • FIVE: Most days, I wear a long gold chain with a few charms on it that I have collected over the years. Recently, I have been considering added a new charm. I can’t get these dainty Catbird pieces off my brain, which is made in Brooklyn and provides 1% of all sales to nonprofits.  I’m waiting for a special something that needs celebrating and then I might scoop up an F monogrammed star to reward myself. I might get desperate and celebrate doing laundry or breathing but hey gotta treat yourself.
  • SIX: I really want to be a person who wears all white sneakers in the summer. But, I’m also a person best described as a walking disaster…. I think I’m going to be a risk taker and do it anyway. M. Gemi makes this wonderful pair with gold grommets. If I spray them with enough protector spray (certainly full of toxins …)  maybe oh maybe I can make it happen?
